Happy 2009!

  • Jan. 2nd, 2009 at 11:54 AM
Just writing to wish everyone a happy new year. I hope 2009 brings you lots of joy and happiness.

I've decided I'm not doing resolutions this year since they never come true. I didn't achieve any of mine yesterday, so rather than feeling like a failure, I'm just going to scrap that whole ritual altogether.

This New Year's, I was not in the mood to celebrate at all. I guess the poor economy really had a huge effect on us - apparently there was a huge damper in New Year's celebrations throughout the city. I spent my New Year's Eve at home with my family playing cards. Sounds lame but it was pretty fun I guess. I mean, that's the kind of New Year's I'm used to from my childhood.

I got a Canon DSLR for Christmas so I'm going to be trying to improve my photography. Stay tuned, maybe I'll post a couple pictures up if I'm not overly embarrassed.

What a great way to start off the new year with a bang. A brand-spanking-new blog by an oh-so-interesting university student named Janet. You can just tell by the name of the journal that this is going to sprout into something awesome. Mind the sarcasm.

To start off, I will briefly tell you a little about myself. My name is Janet (I would put duh but I hate people who use that term), I'm 18 and studying Business in university. I enjoy music (playing piano, singing, etc.), doing sports (yoga, skating, dance), chatting, reading, and using the Internet among other activities in my day-to-day life.

Why did I choose to start this journal? Well, I've actually kept many blogs in my past, about... 3-4ish to be precise. Shameful to admit, I actually used to have one of those web sites with the terrible graphics and vast amount of useless "content." Yes, but those days are behind me.

The main purpose of this journal is mainly to keep my English writing skills in tact (since I seriously don't exercise my writing skills in university), and to keep myself sane and healthy. Healthy?! Well, I plan to document the healthy and unhealthy activities that I partake in in this journal so that I can remind myself of what bad habits to cut and what good habits I should reinforce.

But seriously, this post is supposed to be about 2008, the new year, and all I've been blabbing about is the past. 2008 should prove to hold many new and exciting challenges and provide numerous new opportunities for me. When I was younger, I used to hate aging, but now, I embrace it. I love growing wiser and meeting new people, and plaining just adding to my collection of beautiful memories.

So I mentioned earlier that this blog is supposed to keep me healthy. I guess I should start off by listing some of the "healthy" new year's resolutions that I've laid out for myself:
  • stop eating junk food (as of the moment, it's only chocolate)
  • do a 60-minute dance regime every night before I go to bed
  • do yoga at least 4 times a week
  • try to eliminate the use of sweetener in my tea
  • lose 10 pounds (the healthy way, of course)
